Biblical calendar: Psalm 84 and the Pilgrim Roads

Psalm 84

For this painting, I envisioned a dramatic path rising up to Jerusalem, the golden city on

a hill. Thousands of figures fill the road, making aliyah—ascending to the Holy City. The image reflects not only the ancient pilgrim journeys during the feasts but also the prophetic future when all nations will stream to the mountain of the Lord (Isaiah 2:2).

The roads themselves are also symbolic: a journey of faith, perseverance, and expectation

of God’s deliverance through Messiah.

The Vision

For this painting, I imagined a dramatic pathway rising to the golden New Jerusalem on

the hill. Thousands make their aliyah—ascending the pilgrim roads toward the Holy City.

It reflects both the ancient pilgrim journeys and the prophetic future when all nations stream to the mountain of the Lord.

The Process

The painting unfolded in layers—washes of colour, pilgrims taking shape, and the brilliance of gold crowning the city.
