ADONAI NISSI — THE LORD MY BANNER

“Then Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Adonai-Nissi. Then he said,

‘By the hand upon the throne of Adonai, Adonai will have war with Amalek

from generation to generation.’”

— Exodus 17:15–16

This watercolour painting is inspired by the victorious and steadfast name of God, Adonai Nissi — The Lord My Banner. Derived from the Hebrew word Nes, meaning “banner” or “standard,” this name reveals God as the One who leads His people into victory, covering them with His presence, protection, and strength.

Through expressive watercolour movement and uplifting tones, this artwork reflects the triumph, hope, and assurance found under the banner of the Lord. Inspired by Exodus 17:15–16, where Moses built an altar after Israel’s victory over the Amalekites, this piece serves as a reminder that true victory comes not by human strength, but through the power and faithfulness of God.

Adonai Nissi reminds us that the Lord goes before His people in every battle, lifting high His banner of salvation, courage, and victory. In seasons of struggle and uncertainty, He remains our defender, our refuge, and our strength. This painting invites reflection on the faithfulness of the One who fights for His people and leads them in triumph.
