Thirsting for Adonai — Psalm 42
This illustration is inspired by Psalm 42 and the beautiful words: “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for You, O God.3 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.”
This Psalm expresses a deep longing for the presence of God — a soul that thirsts for Him above all else.
Psalm 42 reminds us that just as a deer desperately seeks water when it is thirsty, our souls were created to thirst for Adonai. His Word becomes the living water that refreshes, nourishes, and satisfies us. It is not simply something we read, but something our hearts should long for.
In this painting, a deer lowers its face into the water, desperately seeking the drink it needs.
The image invites us to consider our own hunger and thirst for Adonai. In a world that constantly offers things to satisfy us, Psalm 42 reminds us that only God can truly satisfy the deepest thirst of the soul.
This artwork serves as a visual reminder to seek Him, to hunger for His Word, and to draw near to the One who alone can refresh and restore our souls.
